'VOICE' Final Script

Voice

By Taliah Lamont

First Draft

Quick Cut Montage of a girl (MC) waking up, showering, brushing her teeth, then she travels to college. Continue the montage showing her at college then we follow her on her journey back but as we watch her walking back up home with her headphones on, they start glitching, the music becomes distorted before it cuts out entirely, she’s incredibly confused but as she goes to take her headphones off we hear a voice on the other line.

VOICE: Doesn’t this seem a bit…familiar?

This voice distorts slightly towards the end but then the rest of world starts to mess up and it cuts out to black.

{Int. Bedroom, Morning}

MC wakes in her own room, confused but seemingly alright although she is dressed in what she wore to college which is slightly strange. She stumbles out of bed and sees a sign on her door which reads “Welcome Home”. She opens the door, it’s a black space, and this is really weird now. She slams the door shut

VOICE: Wrong Move.

She turns around to face the voice but it cuts to black.

VOICE: We need to get you out of these walls.

A light turns on to show MC stood in black empty space. She walks a while, maybe runs for a short while but stops, the blackness appears endless. She looks down, she’s pretty exasperated, but her head snaps around when she hears the voice.

VOICE: Who else bets we are inside your brain right now?

MC digs in her pockets to find a torch and points it round to where she thinks the voice is coming from. She doesn’t find it but we can see a very faint silhouette of VOICE.

VOICE: Cos let’s face it, few others places have so little occupying it.

MCs anger at this comment is thinly disguised and she starts stomping further into the abyss.

VOICE: Or maybe it’s actually full of horrible things and they’ve just been hidden away? That can’t be healthy…

MC stops, this comment got to her a bit, the implications alone drops any facades she had and replaces them with the pensieve and cowardly emotions she tried to mas;, but she gathers herself up and tries to maintain her normal composure, as she does this a door opens, and she walks through.

VOICE: {Echoed} Escaping them again? {Sarcastic} Good choice.

After this she ends up in a corridor. It seems normal; she walks down and walks through the door only to find her back at the beginning. She goes down the corridor again, it happens again. She tries every door on the corridor but each one is locked. She starts jogging, and then running but each time she goes round in circles. After a few spins she stops, it’s infuriating her and she just has to stop herself from bubbling over. She sits down at the side of corridor, pretty defeated.

VOICE: Having trouble?? You’ve been at this for hours….or has it been days, how should you know, you haven’t been keeping track.

MC has her head in her hands, she incredibly stressed right now she just can’t deal with such a lack of logic in her life. She stands up and turns around angrily to open the door she entered through. VOICE appears before her.

VOICE: Finally, you’re starting to catch up.

VOICE clicks his fingers and it cuts to black.

MC wakes up in her regular, empty classroom. Immediately she knows what to do. She needs to solve it, she needs to get out.

VOICE: You know I bet they miss you, your family. Months without you must be crushing them, it’s such a shame you can’t be there…not fully anyway. I’m sure you’re with them in spirit.

She begins by trying to turn on a computer, this just puts a crashing screen on sputtering phrases that VOICE has said, and this is followed when every computer turns on and does it.

VOICE: If only you could remember and who knows they might get you in body as well…

But without blinking she just gets up, she takes a brief look under the desks for anything that can help her, but proceeds to stride out into the hallway. But she stops.

VOICE: Is it coming back now?

She has a flashback of her running out of this door, and through this corridor. She follows it.

VOICE: This place will do that, it stores memories that even the brain can’t recall.

A small spotted trail of blood stains the floor, she begins running over it as memories return.

VOICE: Not immediately anyway…

The flashback mirrors her actions as she follows this memory with the sounds of screams and footsteps growing louder until she collapses at the end after a loud series of shots and we see a shot of the blood draining out of her. Cut to:

{Int. Broken Shack, time unknown}

Show MC asleep on the floor, but she jolts awake and leaps to her feet. She’s not sure where she is but it isn’t nice. It’s marred with random clutter, lots of papers and crumpled up sheets, books and general junk although it’s plain to see some papers with the phrases the Voice has used written on paper, and on the walls (maybe). The blood dripping down her where she was shot is evident and she’s in new territories of pain. VOICE is stood before her, his hand raised like a gun until it falls by his side.

VOICE: Sorry about that…No other way to wake up someone in your, uh, situation.

MC starts throwing books and objects at him but they pass right through. She is pissed.

VOICE: I apologised! I can’t take back the bullets even if I wanted to! This is over!

MC stops throwing. She looks relieved but confused, it’s over?

VOICE: This…exchange was last on my list, or at least second to last, okay? You’ll wake up and you’ll be back in bed. Don’t worry.

VOICE snaps his fingers and MC does indeed wake up in her pyjamas and in bed. She sits bolt upright, checks her wounds, which sure enough are there but bandaged, then she walks out and leaves her room; but when the door shuts VOICE is sat where she was in bed, relaxed.

VOICE: ‘Don’t worry’… She probably wouldn’t if she knew it was the 400th time we met. Oh well, plenty more time to get reacquainted.

He laughs to himself briefly, rests his head back then clicks his fingers, this cuts immediately to black.

The END.
